Circa 1940s and after
This item is in near-mint condition. This is a 10 inch Dress Naval Dagger. It is a 1/2 size scale replica of the Kriegs Marine Dress dagger in use by the Third Reich during WWII. These were sold as desk ornaments, letter openers, and souvenirs of German Naval service members. There were also sold to GI’s post-war as souvenirs.
The pommel retains 100 % of the gilt as does the lightning-style scabbard. There is some loss of gilt on the crossguard. The loss of gilding on just the crossguard does not fit the gilding pattern on the rest of the dagger. but I think it is original to the dagger. The pommel shows the typical Third Reich Eagle with Swastika or Harken-Krueze and the fouled anchor on the crossguard.
The blade is in near-mint condition with a felt scabbard washer and Diamond Puma head logo. A few years back, I had a long-time Puma Official take a look at the logo and he confirmed that it is one that was in use at the time these daggers were made.
I have had only two of these daggers over the years. They are scarce items. I am parting with one of them. Actually, the best one from my collection with the most gilt
